Palmares
Palmares is a small town in
Alajuela, located between San Ramón and Grecia. In this
small town,
you can find friendly
people and many places that represent the native art of “palmareños”
(people from Palmares). The first settlers arrived to what Costa
Ricans know as Palmares
today, around 1835, from other cities of Alajuela looking for a
land to make a living growing tobacco and many other products. Before
the first habitants take
place, the land
was habitated by the native tribe called Chorotega. Nowadays,
Palmares is a town full of many interesting places and activities
that tourist can enjoy. Getting
there is fairly easy since there are buses that go from most of the
main cities of Costa Rica. Some
of the most famous activities are “Fiestas
de Palmares” that is some sort of carnival that takes place in
January with concerts, fireworks, “corridas
de toros”; and “topes” (a horse parade). Many foreigners come
to this activity
and relish
the local food and rich culture of this town
2. Palmares is a city with
so many
awesome places; an example of that are the churches that impress
every new visitor. First, we are going to talk a little bit about the
Central church of Palmares, this church is entirely build from stone,
also we can find the
boulevard in front of the
sanctuary. In the
boulevard you can enjoy many parties an other activities every
Sunday. Something great about this church is the durability because
this church survive many earthquakes.
An other important parish of Palmares is the Zaragoza´s church that stands out for being a traditional Roman Catholic church and one of the most emblematic of Alajuela. Foreigners love this church because it has an amazing architectonic design. 3. In this area, you can eat in a lot of places; you can find many different foods from others countries but one of the restaurants that you can find only in the region is “Chelip´s Palmares”. That is located next to Servicentro in the town.
Another local that you can visit is the Taqueria de Juan, that is located in front of the Central Park in Palmares, there is the oldest local for eating in the region.
